NOTE SMALL BOAT JUST AFT OF MY STERN, NO WAY I CAN BACK OUT WITH HIM THERE! |
0600-There was no way I could get out without hitting something so I had to go wake the boat owner. He was a racer returning home and said he got in at midnight! Smallest boat in the race! "When do you want to go", was his question? I said now, sorry! So we moved his boat back so I could get out. I was able to get out but the margins were very tight. Fortunately, there was no wind!
0730-Finished breakfast. All sail is up but still motoring due to light wind (6 knots). Ahead at least seven Pt. Huron to Mac race boats returning home, five more behind.
0815-Cloudy, humid, and buggy. Sailboats approaching from the stern. Laker northbound to the east. Made a second cup of coffee.
NORTH BOUND LAKER |
0900-ETA Port Huron around noon. SOG 5.2 kts. Trip 13 NM, DTW 12.5 NM, WT 67.3F.
1015-Can now see the Blue Water Bridge across the river. Will need to go through some lift bridges to get to the dock. Did change my mind and decided to go to the Quay instead of the River Street Marina. No services though.

1130-Entered the river and passed under the Blue Water Bridge and wow! I was in current of over 3 knots and in big waves, like a rapids! Took water over the bow that entered both forward hatches. Got the comforter wet!

CLOSE QUARTERS IN THE ST. CLAIR RIVER |
Entered the Black River and had to wait for the Military Bridge to open for about 15 minutes, very tight maneuvering in the channel but finally it lifted and let me through. Normally lift on the hour and the half hour.
1200-Arrived at the Quay in Pt. Huron. Took at least 30 min. to tie up due to the strange arrangement of non-cleats (loops), concrete, and too far spaced posts. Michigan does their best to make docking a challenge! I won't go so far as to curse them, because they also have some of the best harbor facilities of any state.
THE BLUE BRIDGE (MILITARY ST.) IN THE BACKGROUND IS THE LIFT BRIDGE I HAD TO WAIT FOR TO ACCESS THE CITY QUAY I'M TIED UP TO. |
1230-Will give the River Street Marina harbor master office a call to get registered. There are no services here and the marina is a half mile away. 74F, very humid, rain threatening.
1300-Started to rain or mist. Guy came along on a golf cart and registered me and said there would be no charge. Nice!
Will warm up my leftovers last night for lunch. Put the dish in some parchment and stuck it in the oven for 20 minutes Chicken Parmesan with Morel
mushrooms, a hot ciabatta roll, and some white wine. More delicious than last night! Will relax this afternoon. Get my next leg programmed in the C80 display. Long day tomorrow (50 NM). Will go out this eve.
1800-Went for dinner but the US Customs approached as I was leaving. Since the Canadian flag had been removed they walked right on by. The US courtesy flag was flying so not knowing proper flag etiquette they probably assumed it was a US boat. They came back about five minutes later and again did not notice. Removal of the Canadian flag was instrumental in their passing by without concern.
2100-Had a great dinner at the "Vintage Tavern". Third story deck overlooking the area. Will hit the sack early. Long day tomorrow!
