Leg 6-Grand Marais, MI to Whitefish Pt. (Day 9)

Went to bed the night before very early and as a consequence woke up about 0230, tried to get back to sleep but no go. So got up at 0330 and decided to make blueberry pancakes and sausages since I had a long time until sunrise, near 0600.

Had time to do my morning reading and even do the dishes. Pulled in excess rode to minimize use of the windlass. I was very ready to go at sunrise!

0600 pulled up anchor and set out into a dreary cold morning, visibility was good. But it was misting a little. It would be a downwind sail.

0800 I was about 11 NM along the track motor sailing with Genoa only with a boost from the wind off the stern doing 5.7 knots. OAT 48F with water temperature the same. Had the furnace running so inside it was 64F.

0850 water temperature dropped to 41F and air temp to 45F so now I was in thick fog again! Wind 7 kts apparent.

1000 Toasted a bagel and topped it with some cream cheese and added coffee to the mix. SOG was 5.9 kts. Started generator to offset the power use of radar, AIS, navigation display, and other electronics.

1015 Fog was lifting 1/4 mile vis now. Wind and seas increasing

1215 Wind is up to 17-20 kts true, seas 4-5', throttled back to low rpm but kept engines running. Shut down generator.

1345 Anchored near harbor of refuge at Whitefish Point. Below are a few pics of the anchorage.

If weather were adverse I would stay inside the harbor, but this eve winds were west allowing use of the open anchorage.
